Opened in January 2009 Boundary is a project in Shoreditch, east London, located in a converted Victorian warehouse which includes 3 excellent restaurants and bars, a few rooms and suites and a fantastic rooftop which is a perfect summer ambiance.

Owned in part by Terence Conran, the English designer now seventysomething years old,  this development promises well.

Conran's originality and success in both design and restaurants has been renowned over the last decades but you did not expect another challenging operation from him. And it was for good!

When you arrive at the Boundary's entrance you realise that this place got something special in its design, a bit later you will find out that the work of over 50 artists, photographers, graphic designers and print makers is represented throughout the building. Much of it comes from the collections of Terence and Vicki Conran.

And there is also a resident artist, since in early 2007, Javaid started to work on an abstract, in part Chagall-inspired mural on the main staircase. Starting at the basement and covering 7 storeys to the rooftop, the colour moves from dark blue to lighter hues at the rooftop. Javaid aims to complete the work by 2010 while an illustrator has decorated the characterful interiors of the lifts.

The kitchen, that you can see from your table while eating,  employs around 10 people, the cuisine is french and english, most of the staff is french. Food and service are definitely great.

An environmentally friendly approach has been adopted where ever possible at Boundary project, from selecting the materials to the use of local suppliers and insulating a 120 year old building in a modern way.
